On May 11, 2022, the Department of the Interior released the first volume of the investigative report as part of the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative, a comprehensive effort started in 2021 to address the troubled legacy of federal Indian boarding school policies in the U.S.
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe whose own grandparents were survivors of Indian boarding schools, delivered remarks upon the release of the report (video below).
