Co-sponsored event, May 12: Somali Solidarity Day

Minnesota’s Somali community is being targeted by the U.S. federal government through surveillance, punishment, and threats of exclusion as part of a broader pattern that labels Somali Americans as outsiders and undeserving of dignity and protection.

We saw with Operation Metro Surge how quickly these tactics grow. Somali Americans are the entry point, but the impact will not stop there if left unchallenged.

This moment demands a unified and visible response.

Join the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) at the Minnesota State Capitol on May 12 from 12:30-1:30 pm CT in the Rotunda to support the Somali community.

CAIR will announce a resolution recognizing June as Somali Heritage Month, affirming the history, contributions, and rightful place of Somali Americans in our society, and launch the National Somali American Solidarity Coalition, bringing together Somali-led organizations, service providers, and allies to coordinate a national response and build long-term advocacy power.
