Human Rights and Genocide Studies Program

Our Human Rights and Genocide Studies Program for students, educators, and professionals will improve their knowledge through an online self-paced program. Participants will learn about current and past genocides and human rights issues facing our communities, and advocacy for peace and justice locally and globally.

 

Program Benefits

  • Action-focused and oriented for change: You will learn strategies to advocate for human rights in your community.

 

Who can enroll?

Our program meets the needs of a variety of professionals and leaders, including:

  • Educators looking to meet state mandates for teaching about the Holocaust and other genocides.
  • Pre-service teachers who wish to make themselves competitive applicants for future positions.
  • Lawyers, law students, or recent graduates interested in human rights law.
  • College or graduate students seeking to pursue further education or employment in human rights, peace studies, genocide prevention, etc.
  • Community, faith, or civic leaders intent on engaging others in supporting human rights.

 

Program Requirements

  1. Education: Participants attend at least 8 World Without Genocide webinars on a range of genocide and human rights topics. Admission to these programs is included in the registration fee. There is additional cost for Minnesota lawyers seeking CLE credit to attend our webinars. b. Participants are encouraged to read Genocides and Conflicts in the 20th and 21st Centuries and The Justice Project, which highlights international tribunals and mechanisms to hold perpetrators to account and to end impunity. These resources are available online at no cost.
  2. Reflection: Following attendance at each webinar, participants prepare short reflections and a final reflection at the conclusion of the program.
  3. Action: In collaboration with the Executive Director, Associate Director, or Communications Director, the candidate will outline and carry out a brief advocacy plan to support an issue of their choice. Participants can review materials in the ‘Toolkits’ section of our website for suggestions and instructions on easily-implemented activities.

Candidates may register and begin at any time, with two years to complete all requirements.

The cost, paid upon registration, is $175 for students (college, law, or graduate school), $350 for others. Attendance cost for 8 webinars are included with the registration fee.

World Without Genocide offers continuing education credits for Minnesota lawyers, teachers, and social workers for all webinars. This is separate from the certificate program. Program participants may receive both continuing education credits and credit for the certificate. For lawyers seeking CLE credits, there is a $15 surcharge per webinar.
